Summit officials reveal traffic arrangements for 5th Summit
Friday 13th March, 2009
Traffic concerns are on the minds of motorists who have to use the roads on the days of the summit come April.
But security officials in an effort to ensure motorists breathe easier gave details of planned routes for motorists traveling into the city.
ACP Braithwaite said those coming from the East could use the Eastern Main road and enter from Independence Square south as well as they can use Henry, Gordon or Duncan streets.
Gold commander for the summit Steve Waldron dispelled rumours of the red zone stretching across the entire Port of Spain area.
In fact the red zone only extends along Wrightson road to Anna Street in Woodbook.
The blue zone goes from Sackville Street to the Brian Lara promenade while the yellow zone runs west of Abercromby Street.
Officials say community meetings will be held with residents living in these areas so they'll understand how the system will work.
They also expect the local security forces to mesh well with their regional counterparts.
Lt. Colonel Maraj said he was not able to reveal the contingent of the international security personnel.
Commander Waldron dismissed claims that foreign security personnel had asked local authorities to ensure that tints from cars be removed.
Newly appointed Trade Minister Mariano Browne says he hopes that all the arrangements will minimise the burden on businessmen as well as citizens during the three day conference.
