New overpass to open on Friday

New overpass to open on Friday

It'll be all changed quite literally in 24 hours, however, if you're confused, don't worry.

For years the journey to south starts at the intersection by Nestle with a 7 minute wait for a traffic light change.

So if you're on the flyover and you see a complicated interchange ahead, fear not.

However, you should note that the extension heading across the Caroni bridge will be finished in two days according to Mr. Eimers, the consultant involved on the interchange.

But there's a lot more work still plannned.

There's one other major change, at Grand Bazaar if you're exiting it in a southerly direction, there's a new roundabout.

The signs are self explanatory. The only change is to get to Bamboo settlement No.3 you will need to go around the roundabout and up over the ramp onto the new bridge.

However, work isn't completed on two new ramps so look out for that.

According to Mr. Eimers the real effect will be easing the traffic flow in the afternoon. The morning rush hour traffic heading into Port of Spain will still exist, however, there's another part of the project planned that will address that particular problem.

Former works minister responds
Former Works and Transport Minister Sadiq Baksh says while he is happy to hear the second phase of the interchange will be opened soon, he is dismayed about the length of time it took the government to undertake the project.

He says this project should have been completed six years ago to ensure that there was less traffic congestion.
Mr. Baksh says he agrees with the minister's approach to penalise maxi taxi operators.

He believes the rapid rail project will be stalled because of the poor economic management and the poor infrastructural development in the country.
