The news of the death of master programmer Sheldon '$hel $hok' Benjamin spread quickly. The man who has been behind the hits of many soca artistes - including Destra Garcia and Machel Montano passed on at 3 pm at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
He was suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma - a cancer of the lymph nodes.
His death comes soon after a fundraiser held to defray costs for his medical care.
On Sunday night at the Zen a special party was held for him.
Members of the performing fraternity gave a lifeline to assist the master programmer.
Among them General Grant who led the Kisskidee Karavan stable when Caribbean Sound Basin was hailed the home of local music.
For Robert Amar the man behind the Karavan and the Caribbean Sound Basin recording studio felt Benjamin was not fully appreciated. However, there were those who were grateful for his encouragement.
Benjamin won a COTT award for producing 3 canal's "Never Give Up" last year and the year before, he won for "Good Morning Neighbour." 3 canal says his passion for creativity is part of their success.
In a statement, the Copyright Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago says his passing represents a great loss to the new generation of music producers.
Benjamin died three days before his 40th birthday.
