Venezuela President Hugo Chavez is suggesting setting up an "anti imperialist" army to defend Latin America from possible US attacks. During his weekly radio programme "Alo Presidente", he says the army is necessary because "the enemy is a common enemy, the empire!", referring to the United States.

Residents of the coastal Guyanese town of Lusignan yesterday took to the streets and burned tires for a second day, in protest against the killing of 11 villagers on Saturday. The Stabroek News reports that there was a heavy army and police presence in the area.
