Windies to face five ODI’s and two Twenty/20

Windies to face five ODI’s and two Twenty/20
Saturday 6th February, 2010

West Indies kicked off Australia's home summer and now they're back to finish it off with five ODI's and two Twenty/20s.

The regional side will be wary of their hosts who completed a tri-format clean-sweep of Pakistan, but if they are Captain Chris Gayle isn't letting on.

Gayle predicted a 4-1 win over the Aussies and may be buoyed by the fact that the regional side showed more consistent fight in the test series than did Mohammad Yousuf's team.

But the skipper should also note the fact that Australia have won 20 of their past 24 one-day internationals.

And that the Windies lost 5-0 at home to Australia 18 months ago and haven't beaten them in an ODI since 2006, nor even that the visitors are missing eight players including several who

would be in their best XI.

To the team's credit they have started their return leg of the Australian tour well, by posting a remarkable 5 for 399 in 45 overs against a president's XI.

Gayle made 146 of those runs and will have to tote his bat even more as the team laments the loss of Dwayne Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul all to injury.

For Australia, the challenge is to attempt to maintain the superb winning run they have enjoyed in the 50-over format over the past few months.
