T&T athletes add two more medals from CAC games
Thursday 29th July, 2010
Female discuss thrower Annie Alexander picked up a silver medal a short while ago following her bronze in the shot put a couple days ago. She had her best throw on her third attempt and measured a creditable 51:03-metres for the silver.
Amelia Corbie won bronze as she went in the women's over 73-kilograms but withdrew in her clash with Guadeloupe Ruiz, who lost eventually in the final.
Also suffering heartbreak on the table was tennis ace Dexter St Louis who won his singles clash with Salvador Uribe of Mexico 4-0. But in his late afternoon encounter St Louis fought hard but fell just short, going under to another Mexican Jude Okoh 4-3, and 11-13 in the final set.
It was a similar result for his step daughter Rheann Chung, as she won her first match 4-2, but later lost to another Venezuelan Ruida Ezzerdine 4-1 in singles action.
In hockey, the T&T men's team is safely through to Saturday's final following a commanding 5-0 pasting of the Netherlands Antilles. They'll play either Mexico or Barbados for the gold.
The T&T women will play Mexico tomorrow in the quest for the gold medal as well.
And in athletics news, both the T&T mens and women's sprint relay teams are in action shortly. The men cruised home in 39:36-seconds to qualify behind Jamaica in heat number one this morning.
Meanwhile, Garvyn Nero finished seventh in the 800-metres for men in 1:49:11 and Melissa de Leon finished fourth in the women's equivalent, just missing out on a medal by the narrowest of margins with a time of 2:04:98.
Christophe Hercules and Kyron Blaise are competing in the men's triple jump finals.
