Salandy faces off against Hernandez for a Boxing Day bout
December 25th 2008
The last big sporting event of the year is all systems go. The fighters, Jizelle Salandy and Yahada Hernandez are ready, and there seems to be some semblance of a ring set up at the Jean Pierre Complex.
But before that the promoters hosted the traditional weigh-in at Alicia's Palace in St Ann's today for one final word.
Despite yesterday's revelations that there may be problems with the ring at the Jean Pierre Complex, Jizelle Salandy is not affected by things outside the ring. In fact she is at her confident best ahead of tomorrow's bout against Yahada Hernandez.
After this week's press conference with Salandy's opponent Yahada Hernandez, her manager Potts is even more aware of how tough the fight promises to be.
But he is not swayed in his confidence that Salandy will retain her unbeaten record as a professional pugilist.
Hernandez though is not here for a vacation, and speaking through an interpreter made this clear at today's weigh-in
But before the press conference Potts revealed that Hernandez should not be that confident, and even previewed just how things will go on Boxing night.
Hernandez has a pound and a half on Salandy, but this is basically a fight between equally matched opponents.
It will be preceded by a three bout under-card with T&T's Tansley Daniel facing Anndrea Downer, Shawn Corbin meeting Leon Jilkes and Shawn Cox squaring off against Cloy Williams.
Nuff said, now let's get ready to rumble.
