Salandy wins Boxing Day bout with Hernandez

Jizelle Salandy rasied her record to 17 and 0 when she successfully defended her eight belts against Yahada Hernandez of the Dominican Republic at the Jean Pierre Complex last night.
Hernandez who had a 10 and 2 record was ranked in the top ten by the WIBA, WBC and WBA, and was expected to be Salandy's sternest test to date.
There was a good crowd on hand to see the local fighter defend her unbeaten record with a number of dignitaries in the audience.
Both fighters started cautious and went through a feeling out period for the first few rounds with the first real contact coming in the third round.
The pugilist seemed to be taking a rest evry other round and in the fifth round there was a good exchange with the fighter seemingly thrown to the ground.
In the sixth Jizelle again showed some aggression but seemed to slip in the excitment nearing the end of the seventh the fighters again mixed it up with a nice exchange.
The eight round would prove to be the champion's best. She connected with a right and then moved in for the kill. The crowd was on its feet with even the Minister caught up in the action.
The fight went the full ten rounds, but in the end it was Salandy at a cantre.
After the fight Salandy thanked all her fans and sponsors and revealed she fought to a plan.
Salandy says she expects to leave the country early in the new year to do some training abroad.
